On the north end of the Maidan and towards river Hoogly, the Old British Government house is located and it is called now as 'Raj Bhavan'. It was built in the year 1803 and it was modeled on Lord Curzon's home, Keddleston Hall, Derbyshire, England.
Now days this place is used as the official residence for the 'Governor of Bengal'. This building was built in the year 1803 and it is considered to be one of the best examples of Georgian architecture in India. It has 137 rooms and interior of the palace are beautifully decorated with art pieces and the antiques collected by the viceroys who resided here.
