This temple is of Goddess Kali and it was built in the year 1809. It is very typical example of medieval Bengal style of architecture. People believe that the originally this temple is the source from where the city is named Kalikata. As per the history about this city, Kali goddess is actually a destructive side of Lord Shiva and so consort and demands daily sacrifices.
It is followed that the goats are slaughtered in the morning to satisfy the goddess bloodlust. Daily a huge number of devotees visit this temple and on the festive occasions such as Bengali New Year, which is in April and Durga Puja in October or November month.
