Mythological Significance

Ramadan is considered as the holy month of the Muslims, where Muslims keep fast for the whole month. During the fast they avoid eating, drinking and stay away from all bad deeds. This fast starts from dawn and continues till the sunset. The aim behind fasting is refining the patience in their self, with modesty and spirituality. During this month the Muslim offers prayers and recite Quran for most of the time. This is the time when all their sins that have performed are forgiven. People try to stay from all bad deeds, avoid any evil act and purify them self by doing good deeds. It is clearly mentioned in the holy Quran that fasting has been made compulsory for all the Muslims, and it was there before also.

Legends also say that the holy Quran was revealed on the earth from the heaven by the Almighty Allah for the Human beings as a declaration and guidance in the 615 AD. This was on the 27th day of the Ramadan month and hence this night is considered as the night of power known as the 'Laylat-al-Qadr night'. During this month the Muslims get closer to the Almighty Allah through prayers and reciting Quran.

During this month there are some rules and regulations that have to be followed by all the Muslims. They should not be telling lies, smoking, drinking, sexual relationship, a false promise and greed. This all deed is considered as an offense and is forbidden for the whole month. As it is said that it is compulsory for all the Muslims to fast but the elderly person, the soldiers, small children under the age of 7 and sick person are excused from this act.

During this month besides fasting people can do good acts by distributing cloths, food and money for the poor's this is called as the Khairat. This is also one of the main things that have to be followed during this month. When a Muslim performs all this it is said the body and the soul of a person is purified and all his sins are forgiven by the Allah, all this should be done by a clear and true devotion for the Allah.

Celebration

The Muslims get up early in the morning even before the dawn eat a little that is called as the sufoor and then start the fast for the day, they offer five times prayers every day and recite Quran for the whole month, in the evening after the sunsets they break their fast with a date and many other eatables with lots of fruits, this time is called as the iftar. In this month there is a special prayer that has to be followed along with the 5 prayers; this is called as the Taraweeh prayers. There are some Muslims who like to spend their whole night for the entire month praying and asking for forgiveness.

This month starts by the new moon, one day before the Ramadan starts Muslims after the evening prayers go on the terrace and try to see the new moon, the moon is very thin as a hair, which can be seen in the sky. The end of the fast and they is a 3 day celebration called as the Eid-Al-Fitr. This is the main festival of the Muslims, as it comes after the holy month of Ramadan. This is well-known as the "feast of breaking fast". This festival is celebrated with great joy by the Muslims all over the country.

Traditional food

There are variety of traditional dishes that are made during this month. Some of these dishes are vegetarian and some are non-vegetarian. The samosa's, fried items, mal Pua, suji ka halva, seek kabab, chana, chicken cutlet, chicken pastes all these items are for Iftar. For main dinner there are chicken Biryani, chicken tandoori, chicken curry, meat curry, khichada and many more. There are some sweet dishes also as firni, kheer, falooda and halva. All these are favorite items that are prepared at home during Ramadan month.

Ramadan is a month where people have to forget their revanchists and come together forgiving each other.
