Indian Independence Day is a red-letter day that is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety all over India. Indian have gained this independence after 200 year long British rule, on this day it was altogether birth of a new Nation and new start for India. On this day the first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the tri-color flag of an independent India.
After independence, India was well-known as the biggest democratic country in the world. The only thing that was not acceptable was that the country was divided into two India and Pakistan. Just because of this decision there were aggressive public riots that had taken place in these countries. After these riots hundreds of people lost their lives. The havoc made thousands of people destitute and shattered their lives. This division caused a remarkable dislocation of the residents of both the countries. There were more than 30 lakhs of Hindus and Sikhs who had to shift from Pakistan to India, and there were about more than 50 lakhs of Muslims who had to shift from India to Pakistan.
After a long wait India got its freedom, but this achievement had to pay a big price for its independence such as a there is a battle that is still continuing between the two countries.
On this day India got rid of the foreign yoke and became a democratic sovereign nation. This day was a day of fulfillment and was a day to start a new beginning. In midnight India came back to life as the foreigners handed India over to its own Indian leaders.
Celebration of Indian Independence Day
This day is a national holiday all over the country. On this auspicious day the prime minister of India hoists the tri-color national flag at the Red Fort, New Delhi. After flag hoisting national anthem is recited and the flag is given a salutation of 21 guns as an honour for the country. Prime minister of India also delivers a speech to all the Indians that is live telecast on the national television. On this day many Indian soldiers are awarded for their bravery, by the hands of the Indian Prime Minister. In many schools students and teacher celebrates this festival with all respect and honour. There are many competitions held in schools that are related to the independence of India.
There are many cultural programs that are held in all the states of India.
There are many shows on Indian independence organized by the private television channels. Some channels also play patriotic songs that remind us the struggle of our freedom fighters. There are movies telecast that are related to Indian independence.
Shops, educational centers and government offices are closed on this day as it is a national holiday. Gate way of India is the main attraction and is the favorite hangout for the people on this day, as this place is decorated, it is worth watching in the evening.
Traditional food
As this day is a national holiday all the family members are together on this day and there are different variety of food that are prepared on this day. People try to prepare their favorite delicacies and enjoy with the entire family.
This day is the most memorable and touching day for all the Indians. People should respect this independence as they have done till date. The younger generation has to preserve this Independence as our seniors have preserved it for years.
