Eid-al-Fitr- also known as Ramadan Eid

It is celebrated on the 1st day of Shawwal and on the end of the Ramadan month according to the Islamic calendar.
Mythological significance
Ramadan is the holiest month of Islam, during this month people fast for 30 days and then on the 31st day come the Eid. This eid is well known as the 'Eid-al-Fitr' in Arabic the meaning of Eid is "festivity" and Fitr means "to break fast". It is celebrated as the month of Ramadan which is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar ends and Shawwal starts.
This is most important festival for the Muslims. This comes with a new moon and end of the holiest month of Ramadan. Another means of Eid is returning of happiness. This festival of Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated with great passion and joy by the Muslims all over India.
Celebration of Eid-al-Fitr
People starts the day having bath wearing new cloths going to the mosque and offering prayers known as Salatul Eid. This is very important prayer of this Eid, only men can go to the Mosque and women can offer this prayer 'namaaz' at home itself. This is only in India outside our country women are also allowed to go to mosque to offer this namaaz. After this namaaz people shake hands, hug each other and pass greeting saying 'Eid-Mubarak' to each other.
The main and important aspect of Eid is 'Charity' people do a lot of Charity on this day as they give this charity to the needy people. Before this was in the form of giving food grains, fruits, cloths, dry fruits and things that are necessary for the daily living for a very needy person. Later these changed into exchanging gifts and now-a-days cash is given as a token of love for the younger from the elders.
People buy new cloths, sandals and jewelry for the celebration of this festival. There are stalls of eatables and many other things in many place of India.
People enjoy going there and having mouth water dishes with variety of sweet dishes. On this day people visits their relatives place and share their memorable moment's with each other. Even enemies forget all their disputes and extend their good wishes towards one another. Eid is the day of thanksgiving and fun.
Eid is celebrated by all castes and sub-castes of the Muslims with full love and affection for each other. People help each other for celebrating this festival as the other celebrates. Usually eid is celebrated for 3 days and this also changes individually.
Traditional food
There are many dishes that are made on this day out of this main and the most important dish of this festival is the Sheer korma and the seviya.
- Sheer korma: this is the most mouth watering sweet dish prepared from milk. There are lot of dry fruits and sweet in this. This is prepared by boiling the milk for a long time and then frying dry fruits and adding them to the boiled milk. Little seviya is also added to this to give a different taste.
- Seviya: This is also a type of sweet dish which is served with the sheer Korma. This prepared by just boiling the seviya and adding sugar and some dry fruits to it.
- Nawabi Biryani: This is a very special dish which is made on this occasion. It is a non-vegetarian dish made up of rice, mutton/chicken, and all the masalas with some dry fruits.
- Korma: This is a spicy and rich mutton/chicken curry which is served with Biryani.
This is a festival of spreading love and respect for the people. Eid is celebrated world-wide; it is celebrated in Dubai, UK, Indonesia and South Asia on a large scale.
