Dhantryaodashi is celebrated by the Hindus in all over India as well as across the world. It is celebrated on the 13th day of the Hindu month 'Ashwin' that is in the period of October to November. This holy day is actually a beginning of 'Diwali' and also knows as Dhanteras in many parts of India.

It is the day in honor of Dhanvantari and clebrated two days before Diwali. 'Dhan' actually means a wealth and so it is great importance to the rich class. Goddess Laxmi is a goddess of wealth and is worshipped on the day of Dhanteras.

On this holy day all decorate there houes as well as office entrances with traditional rangolies to welcome Goddess Laxmi. There is a tradition of drawing footprints of Lakshmi in rangoli to welcome her. On this day many buy and worship gold and silver ornaments as a symbol of Godess Lakshmi.

This day is the perfect day for buying and trading as well as wedding. Laxmi puja is main part of this occassion and lamps are lit the whole night. Bhajans or the Devotional songs are sung in praise of Laxmi, in Maharashtra, and dry coriander seeds and jaggery are offered as Naivedya. In many villages in India cattle are worshipped as they are the armors of farmers and the main source of income for them.
