Lakshmi Narayan Temple, one of the favorite tourist attractions in the New Delhi was built by the Birla family in 1938. The temple which is also known as Birla Temple enshrines the Hindu Lord Maha Vishnu. One of the largest temples in India, Birla Temple is modern in concept and construction, attracts thousands of tourists daily. People of any faith can enter the temple which is dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. The inauguration of the temple was done by Mahatma Gandhi, the father of nation. He was also assassinated in this temple complex in 1948. Celebration of Krishna Janmashtami and Deepawali attracts huge devotees to the temple, yet all Hindu festivals are celebrated. A Buddha temple is also located the complex. This extravagant temple stands as a striking example of Hindu architecture and culture.
