Siddhivinayak Temple

Siddhivinayak temple is a famous Hindu pilgrimage place in Mumbai. It was built in the year 1801 by Mrs. Deubai Patil and Mr. Laxman Vithu. This is one of the highly honored idols of Lord Ganesh in India. This temple is definitely one of the most crowed temples of lord Ganesh in India as there are thousands of devotees visiting every year. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganapati, he is considered as the Lord of Beginnings in the Hindu tradition.

The idol of lord Ganesh is placed in a small hall in the temple. The main gate of the temple is made up of wood, and there are shrines impressed with different poses of Ashtavinayak on the frame of the gate. This symbolizes the eight different forms of lord Ganapati. In this temple the sanctum sanctorum, ceiling is golden plated and the sculptures are the main attraction for the visitors. The idol of Ganapati is depicted with four arms holding lotus flower in one arm, platter of modakas in another arm, an axe in one arm and finally a garland of beads in the last one. The idol of lord Ganesh is adorned with two consorts of lord, Riddhi and Siddhi on either side. There is a beautiful image of Hanuman at the entrance of the temple.

In the Hindu tradition it is believed that Tuesday is the ruling day of Lord Ganesh so people flock here on Tuesdays for taking the blessing of Ganapati. People also strongly believe that wishes of those who come with a true faith are full filled here.

This temple was renovated in the year 1994 to hold a large number of crowds. Many celebrities visit this temple often. This temple is a highlighted landmark on the Prabhadevi road. There is a narrow lane which is known as the ‘phool gali’ just outside the temple. Here there are local vendors who sell items that are essential for pooja such as coconut, various flowers and tulsi leaves. Lord Ganesh’s all time favorite sweets are ladoo or modakas which are also available here.

Festival:

The main festival of Lord Ganesh is the ‘Ganesh Chaturti’ during this period the temple is decorated with lighting, flowers and different other items. This makes the temple look more fascinating. During this time the numbers of visitors gets doubled. The temple gathers a lot of charity during this time from the well wishers. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over Mumbai.
