Prince Gautam, now well known as the Buddha left the palace in Kapilvastu, just at his age of 29. He revisited this palace again 12 years later after he had attained enlightenment. Now this place Kapilvastu includes various villages, main of all these is Piprahwa and Ganvaria.
At the ancient site a large stupa stands and it is beleived that it has housed the bone relics of the Buddha. The relic presence is verified by ancient Brahmi inscription at Piprahwa.
