Jhansi is the gateway to Bundelkhand and it was main place for the Chandela Kings. It lost the importance in the 11th century after the eclipse of the dynasty. In 17th century it again came in light when ruled by Raja Bir Singh Deo, who was very close to Mughal Emperor Jahangir those days.
