Jaunpur is situated at crossing point of the Gomti River and it was very important place in medieval times. It was founded by Feroz Shah Tughlaq in 14th century in memory of his cousin Sultan Mohammad and Jauna was his real name, so this place got name as Jaunpur.
Afterwords it became the centre of the independent Sharqi kingdom of Jaunpur. The architectural o this place tells us the past and on the other hand the city is now famous for tobacco leaves, Jasmine oil and raddish.
