Vellore is 145 kilometers on the west of Chennai city and it is one of the last remains of the Vijayanagara Empire. This place is a semi-rural town and it has a very violent historical past. Here the fort is a major attraction of visitors and Vellore is now day became world famous for its Christian Medical College and Hospital.
Vellore Fort is built under the Vijayanagara King, by Sinna Bommi Nayak, a vassal captain. It also called as Vijaynagar Fort, in the 16th century. This fort stands at the place, where the Sultan was defeated. The tombs of Tipu Sultan and his family lie on the west side of this fort.
Small museum inside the fort displays artifacts of the Pallava and Chola rules. It is the perfect example of a military architecture and jala durga. It is open to all since 7 am to 7 pm every day. Now day it contains many public and private offices.
