Vellore Fort
The Vellore fort is located 125 km west of Madras in Tamil Nadu state. The height of the fort is 455 meter and 455 meter in width. In the period of Marathas this fort was captured by them that are in 16th century. In 17th century the fort was under the control of Sultan of Bijapur. The fort was constructed by the Sinna Bommi Nayak under the Vijaynagar kings Sada Sriranga Maharaj.
Points of Attraction:
The construction of this fort was completed with the help of hewn Kangaroo stones which are rectangular in shape. In fort, there is one small museum and it contains sculptures which dating back to Pallav and Chola times. The fort is famous for it's grand wall, wide moat, and robust masonry. Out which the broad moat receives water from the Suryagunta tank. Right now this moat is dry. The circumference of the moat is around 8000 feet in length and 190 feet in depth. The area covered by the fort is about 133 acres. There is one temple, mosque, and also one Church. Also there are other buildings but they are used as public offices.
How to go there:
There are number of buses are available from Tiruchirapplli. And the one important thing is that the Vellore's station is 5 km from the Katpadi. As all these facilities are available there is no problem to reach at Vellore's fort.
