Udaygiri Fort
Udayagiri fort is located 34 km away from the Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu state. Actually this fort lies in Udayagiri Village in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The history of this fort is that the fort was built by Marthanda Varma which was famous King of Venad in 1741. In famous battle of Colachel, Captain De Lennoy was captured the fort. After that, that is in the period of Tipu Sulatan the main use of this fort was to keep the prisoners.

The main attraction of the fort is that brass gun which is around 16 feet long. The weight of that gun is too high and could not be removed even with the help of sixteen elephants. There is tomb of De Lennoy who is the trusted General of King Marthanda Varma. This De Lennoy trained soldiers in the European method of combating. Under the supervision of the General a foundry for casting guns and cannon balls were established within the fort. Besides that the surrounding area of the fort is home for deer, ducks, other animals with different types of trees.
Way to reach there:
If you want to visit this fort first go to Thiruvanthapuram. Then from the same highway you will find one church on the main road. There is one narrow way out on the side of the church. Then go to the right side and then you will find one big gate of stone. And this is your Uddayagiri fort.
