Mahabalipuram was one of the flourishing port of the Pallavas in the ancient India. Now day this monument centre is one of the major beach holiday resort centre in the south India. But it has got name because of the 'Mamalla' a great wrestler and now it is nice historic coastal temple town.

Mamallapuram is 60 kilometers away from the famous south Chennai city. It is ancient seaside town, from which anybody can enjoy the splendid Pallava art specimens and all those were flourished from about 600 to 750 AD. This place is also famous for shore temple, as it was the second capital and seaport of the Pallava.

Here you will find most of the temples and rock carvings completed in AD 630 to 668 and in AD 700 to 728. The monuments here are in rock-cut shape and belong to the Dravidian temple architecture. These wall sculptures depict animals, mythological episodes, demons, Gods, epic battles and seem live and realistic. This place has 9 monolithic rathas, 14 cave temples as well 3 stone temples.
