Gingee Fort
The Gingee fort lies in the Villupuram District in Tamil Nadu state. Another name of the fort was Chenji. The fort is famous for temple more than the fort itself. The fort lies 160 km away from the main city Chennai of the Tamil Nadu state. The fort was built in 9th century by the Chola Dynasty. 'Most Impregnable Fort in India' were the words of Shivaji Maharaj fort this fort. And hence this was known with the name of 'Troy of East' in the British period.
After the period of Chola Dynasty the fort was strengthened by the Vijaynagar empire that is in 13th century. After that the fort came under the control of Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Again this fort was strengthened by Marathas. The fort was finally captured by the Mughals in 1690. Kalyana Mahal is one of the best attractions from the fort Gingee. The Mahal is at the right side of the fort. Singavaram Sri Ranganatha is located in between Chenji and Melmalayanur.
The fort is at 160 km away from the Chennai. Chennai is the main city in Tamil Nadu and is well connected to all important cities of the Tamil Nadu state. So, one can easily reach up to here by any transportation such as rail, bus, and air. From Chennai there are lots of vehicles are available to reach at Villupuram.
