Fort St David
The Fort St David was a British Fort which is 100 km away from the Madras. The fort lies near to the Cuddalore town. The history of this fort is that the fort actually bought from the Marathas by the British Company in 1690. The name of that company was British East India Company. In 1756 Robert Clive was the governor of the fort.
The fort was the witness of the memorial history. The Marathas captured this fort along with Gingee fort. These forts were captured by the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1677. From Shivaji the fort was purchased by the British in 1690. From here the great gun was fired to different points of compass including this town Cuddalore.
In the period of 1756 the fort became headquarter of the British. In year 1758 French captured it. After the only two years later British recaptured it. They controlled this fort till 1782. In 1782 French was captured this fort and finally that is in 1783 in British attack this fort came under the control of British and remain under the control of British
