Shillong Peak

Shillong Peak is also known as the abode of gods and it is the place beacuse of which the city got its name. It is the highest point in this state and it is of 1965 meter in height. This place got its name from the deity Shyllong or Lei Shyllong, which is worshipped by the people over here. This peak offers many panoramic views to the visitors and also surrounded by hills and it is accessible only by chartered taxi or the rickshaw.

Lewduh Bazar or Bara Bazar

Lewduh Bazar or Bara Bazar is a place to catch a colourful local life after visiting this palce. Many cheerful local women are the dominating fact of this market and it is the largest of its own type in the north-east side. Vegetables, meat as well as fruits like Oranges and pineapples are brought and sold in tis market. Khasi food is sold in mabny small stalls loacted here. It is nice to visit at least onec the authentic local colour. It is mainly the attraction of tribal people, mostly women, who come for shopping.

Elephanta Falls

Elephanta Falls is loacted at a distance of 12 kilometer from the road to Cherrapunji and it is a ice place with two high falls are set amidst dense fern covered rocks. One can have the best look just by walking down to the lowest pool. These mountain stream found dried in the month of November to May each year.

Umaim Lake

Umaim Lake is also known by a name Barpani Lake and it is the artificial lake, but it is mostly known place for the anglers and it can also offer the water sports facilities sometimes to the visitors. Still it is on eof the undeveloped palce for tourism.

Lum Sohpetbneng Peak

Lum Sohpetbneng Peak is also known as the Navel of Heaven as per the Khasi myths and it is considered as sacred by the loacl people. It is set amidst a backdrop of deep forests and one can enjoy the peace of mind and solace at this place.

Mawsynram

Mawsynram is knwon as the wettest place on earth and it is also famous for the caves with stalagmite and stalactite formations with a giant formation in the shape of a Shiva linga and water dropping continuously on it.

Jowai

Jowai is the headquarters of the Jaintia tribes and Jowai is surrounded by the Myntdu River. It is nice ad pleasant city township which has many caves and the caves are used very well by ancient warriors as hideouts. There is famous Yale Falls and also the site of the Kopil Hydel Project is nearby.

One can reach this palce by bus from Bora Bazar and it is at a distance of 40 kilometers further on south side of Syndai. It also many caves which were used by many ancient warriors as hide outs, which of these conatins the Krem Sweep with the vast chamber. It is the longest and deepest Eocene Age cave in India with several cataracts and waterfalls is Krem Um Lawan, it is at a distance of 60 kilometer form southeast side of Jowai near Lumshnong.

Accommodation

Circuit House at Jowai, Nartang is just at a distance of 12 kilometer on the north side of Jowai are the atmospheric remnants of the ancient capital of the Jaintia kingdom. There is a huge monoliths form striking landmarks of the village and it also represent the culture of the Hynniewtrep people. One can also visit the hill top temple of Goddess Durga, which is 500-year old. Jowai can be reached by bus from Bara Bazaar.

Williamnagar

Williamnagar is a district headquarter and it has got such a named after the first Chief Minister of this State and this place is loacted on the banks of the Simsang River. One can also visit easily Sisobibra, which is a historical place from here. There is monument which was erected in their memory of the Garo warriors fought with the Britrishers.
