  • Taragarh Fort

Taragarh fort is located at 39 kilometers away from Kota, Rajasthan. The fort had erstwhile glory when Rajput was at their highest glory. The Taragarh was built in 1354 and can go there by the steep pitched roadways. The fort gives very beautiful view of a whole town.

The Taragarh fort has 6-gates. The fort consists of massive water reservoirs carved out of the solid rocks and Bhim Burj, the biggest of battlements. Bhim Burj housed famous cannon named Garbha Gunjan. It is the 2nd biggest cannon in the country.

The fort has one main gateway that has some careful carvings of the elephants. Actually, the fort has 3-main gateways - Lakshmi Pol, Gagudi ki Phatak and Phuta Darwaza. But bad luck, these are now in damaged conditions. During its glory days, the fort was famous for its tunnels networking the whole hillside. These tunnels let the emperor and his deputies to escape if there was imminent risk to their lives from any enemy. Sadly, maps of these tunnels are not available nowadays.

Water Reservoirs - Huge water reservoirs are mounted on the fort. These huge reservoirs were constructed to store water and provide it to occupants during a crisis period. It's said that if this water freed in a full force, it had the power to wash away the people living below.

Bhim Burj and Garbha Gunjan – Bhim Bhurj is the huge stone tower in a fort compound. It houses massive and famous cannon called Garbha Gunjan. Garbha Gunjan is the 2nd biggest cannon in the country.

Rani Mahal –Rani Mahal is very beautiful and small palace in fort. It was constructed for the king's wives and concubines. But Rani Mahal has vanished most of its magic as the polish of its impressive wall paintings and stain glass windows have entirely faded away.
