  • Mehrangarh Fort

    Mehrangarh Fort is located on 125 meter high hill. The construction of the Mehrangarh Fort was started by Maharaj Rao Jodha (1459) and was finished by Maharaj Jaswant Singh in 1638 to 1678.

    The fort initially had 7- gates called pols. First gate was built with spikes to deal with the elephants' attack. The another gate is Jayapol, made by Maharaj Man Singh in the year of 1806, pursuing his success over the Jaipur & Bikaner army. Fatehpol /victory gate was built by Maharaj Ajit Singh (1907) to remember his win over Mughals. The very last gate is Lohapol/iron gate.

    The Mehrangarh fort is even now run by King of Jodhpur. Within fort there are many palaces and courtyards. Some of them are :

    • Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace)
    • Shish Mahal (Mirrors Palace)
    • The Phool Mahal (Palace of Flowers) etc.
    Few of these have set of folk music devices, miniature paintings, elephant howdahs, furniture, costumes etc.

    There is one temple dedicated to goddess Durga (Chamunda temple).

    • The Jodhpur city is well-known city and well -connected from main cities of India by roadways, railways and airways also.
