Jalandhar was a flourishing city under the Mughals and it is the capital of the Hindu Kingdom in the days gone by. Formerly known as Jullundur this city is an ancient city of which very little survives. Mahmud of Ghazni destroyed it and during the Mughal Empire it was the important centre administering the area between Sutlej and Beas rivers.

Jalandhar is very famous for its high quality sports as well as it are very important industrial centre in Punjab. The nearest airport from Jalandhar is Chandigarh, at a distance of 85 kilometer. Jalandhar itself is a railway station. Sarai in the year 1857 is a comparatively late addition to this city.

Kapurthaia

Kapurthaia is at a distance of 18 kilometer from Jalandhar. There is the Panch Mandir standing exactly in the center of this city, which is a nice Hindu temple. This city also has a mosque. This mosque is designed in moorish style by a French architect. Some other places of interest are the Jagjit Palace and the Shalimar gardens.

Kanjli is at a distance of 8 kilometer from Kapurthaia. Phillaur

In Phillaur there is the state police training school located in a fort which was originally a Mughal Caravan Serai. This Serai was reconstructed as well as redesigned by the Italian architect.

Nakodar

Nakodar is at a distance of 25 kilometer from Jalandhar. This place got such a name from the Huna Chief, Nagodar. There are two nice Mohammedan tombs for travelers to visit while travelling across this region. These tombs are located very close to each other and both of these are set amongst trees.

Nur Mahal

Nur mahal is at a distance of 15 kilometer from Nakodar. Emperor Jehangir built this Nurmahal and it has got its name from the name of the Emperor Jehangir's wife.
