Purandar
Purandar fort is about 40 kilometres from Pune and is located in Saswad taluka. It is at 1398 metres height above sea level. The fort has 2-parts: bale killa (upper) and machi (lower).
On north of the lower part, it has a wide terrace including a cantonment region of fortifications. There are several monuments – old as well as new, on its terrace.
From the cantonment a windy way leads to an upper fort. The approach is controlled by Dilli Darwaza, the major gate. An important monument on the top of hill is old temple of lord Kedareshwar.
It was the capital of Maharashtra under Shivajj Maharaj. Now Purandar holds NCC academy.
How to go there
- The fort is 40 kms from Pune.
- Adjacent railway station and airport is Pune only (40kms).
