Forts in Maharashtra

  • Pandavgad

Pandavgad fort is also called Pandugad fort lies 4 miles north- west direction of Wai. It is 4177 ft above the sea level.

One can reach the fort by the footpath switching to north from Bhogoan village which is three miles west side of Wai on the Wai-Velang route. The fort is very difficult to deal with. At some places, a path is hardly a foot in its width with deep valleys on one side and hilly slopes on other.

Pandavgad fort is approx 6 acres in size and almost a square shaped. Its protections are made of a scarp normally from 40 to 60 feet high, above usually steep and in many locations actually overhanging and defeated by wall with stone ramparts.

It is believed that the Pandavgad is made by Kolhapur Silahara head Bhoja II. (1178 to 1193) of the Panhala. Roughly in 1648 it’s stated as being in command of the Bijapurmokasadar placed at Wai. In the year of 1673, the fort was acquired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
