Mandangad Fort

Mandangad is quite old fort. The fort is located in the Ratnagiri District. The height of this fort is about 1606 feet. The distance between Mandangad village and fort is 2 km. According some histrorical information, Mandangad was built in 12th century during the reins of the Shilahar dynasty. In the peroid of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that is in 16th century the fort was captured by Shivaji Maharaj in the battle with Adil Shah. The 400 years ago big gun is the main feature of this fort. After that the fort was captured by British in the year of 1818.

Points of Attrction:

Actually this fort was made of three seperate fortification. The Mandangad is at the south side, Porkot is in the middle, and Jambha is at the North side. Right now this Jambha Lake is dry. These three was controlled by Shivaji, Siddis, and Kanhoji Angre respectively. There is one Ganapati Temple and a tank called Thorla Talav. Also there is a Darga, a magazine, tanks, a small number of remains of citadels and remnants of fort walls are the only constructions that one can see on the top of Mandangad. From the top of the Mandangad fort, one can see the Palgad which is exactly opposite side of the fort.

How to reach there:

The distance between Mandangad village and Mumbai is about 180 km. The route for this Mandangad fort is just like first go to Mumbai then from Mumbai go to Nagothane which is at 100 km away from the Mumbai. Then from Nagothane go towards Mandangad (80 km) via Lonera. From Mandangad village this Mandangad fort is 2 km away. Two and half hour require seeing whole fort.
