Makarandgad Fort

The fort is lies in the Satara District. The height of this fort is 4075 feet. The fort is hill fort. The base village of the fort is Hatlot. Two days are sufficient to visit this fort. The fort is in the region of Mahabaleshwar. The portable water is available on the top of the fort. There is no food facility available on the top of the fort.

What to see above:

The fort is located on the reservoir of river Koyna and sheltered with thick forest. The village Ghonuspur has primary school and one Mahadev temple. There is no protecting wall around fort. On the top of the fort there is temple of Lord Bhairoba. Also there is water tank on the top of the fort which is at the east of the fort. After this Makarandgad fort there is Madhu Shikhar peak. From the top of the fort one can able to see Mahabaleshwar range, Pratapgad, on west side are Sumargad, Mahipatgad and Rasalgad. Also you can able to see Koyna river and the backwater of Shivsagar dam.

How to go there:

Actually there are two villages at the base of this fort. Out of which one is Hatlot and other is Chaturbet. There are number of State transport buses are available to go to these villages. From Hatlot there is only one bus available which goes in the evening. But for Chaturbet village there are three buses are available. From Hatlot you require at least one and half hours to reach on the top the fort. And from Chaturbet village you require two and half hours to reach Ghonaspur village and this Ghonaspur are at the shoulder of the fort. From Ghonaspur you require half hour to reach on the top of the fort.
