Kalyangad Fort
Kalyangad fort is located in the Satara District. The height of this fort is around 3500 feet. The grade of this fort is easy. All forts in this range are built on the hilltops. The base village of the fort is Nandgiri. Another name of the fort is Nandgiri fort. The fort was built by king Bhoj 2nd shilahar dynasty. The copper inscription also give the proof of this that fort was built by Shalihar dynasty. In the period of Shivaji Maharaj, this fort was captured by Shivaji in their Satara campaign. After Marathas this fort went to the control of Peshawas. And finally this fort was captured by British in 1818.
Points of Attraction:
The first gate of this fort is at the North side. After entering, there is one temple. This fort has gallery and this is the main attraction of fort. The depth of this gallery is about 30m. Iron rods are on the both side of the route of the gallery. Also there is water on both side of the route. On the east side of the fort there is one temple of Lord Hanuman. Also there is one Bamanghar. There is memorial of Kalyan Swami which at the front of this Bamanghar. This Kalyan Swami is the follower of the Ramdas Swami. Here is another temple of Lord Ganesha. From the top of the fort one can able to see other forts such as Jaranda, Ajikyantara, Chandan, Vandan, Vairatgad.
Way to reach there:
You have to only one option to reach on the top of the fort. This is from the base village Nandgiri. There are lots of buses are available from the Satara S.T. to this Nandgiri. The distance between Satara and Nandgiri is about 3 kms. The bus which go via this Nadgiri is Kinhaee. Also there is one cave on this route. Five to Seven peoples are able to stay in Hanuman Mandir at a time.
