Harishchandragad Fort
The Harishchandragad fort situated in the Malshej Ghat in Junnar region. The height of this fort is 3500 feet and hence this fort is famous in the Junnar region. Actually this fort has references in different Puranas such as Matsya Purana, Agni Purana, and Skanda Purana. This fort is good spot for the nature lover and trekker. Remnants of Mesolithic man have been discovered from here. This fort first captured by Mughals then captured by Marathas in 1747. Joshi is the last Chief of the fort that is in 1818. Points of Attraction:
There are three peaks on the Harishchandragad including Rohidas, Taramati and Harishchandra. Out of which Taramati is the old cave.This fort contain the beautiful Temple of Harishchandra and this temple has some readable sculptures. There are some caves which are carved during the 11th century. The idol of Vishnu is in the cave.Also there are idols of Nandi and Shivling on the fort. The Saint Changdev meditated here in the 14th century and pen down his manuscript - 'Tatwasaar'.
How to go there:
If you want to visit this Harishchandragad fort then you can able to go to with any of the following option. By bus, first go to Mumbai, then go to Malshej Ghat through Ale phata which is 164 km. And the distance between Malshej Ghat and the Ale Phata is 39 km. From Shivajinagar the frequency of buses to the fort is good. Also the nearest airport is Mumbai. If you want to travel from train then Kyalan is the nearest railway station.
