Ghodbunder and Gorakhgad Forts

  • Ghodbunder Fort

    The Ghodbunder fort is situated in the Thane District in Maharashtra state. The fort is on the Ghodbunder road. And Ghodbumder is the village which lies in the bottom of the fort. The history of this fort is that the fort was built by Portuguese in 1730.

    Actually Portuguese came in the 1530 but construction of this fort was started in 1730 that is after 200 years. The name given by Portuguese to this fort is Cacabe de Tanna. After that British captured this fort and made it headquarter for the Thane District.

    Also there many proofs which states that there are many unsuccessful attempts by Marathas to capture this fort. But at last Marathas captured this fort in 1737. Right now the condition of this fort is not well and now work is started to preserve it.

    Way to reach there:

    As Thane is well connected by all that is by air, bus, and train. So there is no problem to reach there and from there go to Ghodbunder village which is on the Ghodbunder road. Thane to Ghodbunder distance is not more 50 kms (just 43 km) so you reach there within few minutes.

  • Gorakhgad Fort

    This Gorakhgad Fort is a hill fort which is in Thane District. This fort contains caves and other things. The fort located in the Malshej region and at an altitude of 2140 feet. The Dehari is the base village of this fort.

    There are many caves and temples around this Gorakhgad fort. There is one temple Gorakhnath which capable to contain at least 100 peoples at a time. It is about 25 km from Murbad near Kalyan in Thane District.

    How to go there:

    As this fort is near to the Thane there is no problem to reach there. First go to Murbad via Kalyan. The distance between the Murbad and fort village is about 25 km. So, you have required just half hour to reach on the top of the fort.
