Chandan and Vandan Forts

    Actually these two forts are twin forts which are located in the Satara District. The height of these forts is about 3800 feet. And the grade of these forts is easy. It is very easy task to find these forts on Pune-Satara road due to its flat plateaus. The distance between these forts and the Satara city is about 24 km.

    The history of these forts is written in copper-inscription which states that the fort was built by King Bhoj. After that in 1673 Shivaji Maharaj captured these forts in their Satara campaign. During the period of Sambhaji Maharaj, the Amanullah Khan attacked on the fort an captured from Marathas.

    Points of Attraction:

    At the east side of the fort there are other forts are located such as Jarandeshwar, Kalyangad, Bhavani hills. And on the west side Vairatgad, Pandavgad are located.

  • Chadan Fort:

    On the fort of Chadan there are two bastions at the entrance. Then after ten to fifteen steps on the left side there is destroyed structure. Then on the top of the fort there is temple of Lord Shiva which consists two 'Pindis' and these both 'Pindis' encompasses five 'Lingas'. The place named with 'Panchvad' is also on the top of the fort. The name is due to it contains five banyan trees.

  • Vandan Fort:

    This Vandan fort has two entrance doors. On the top of this fort there is one idol of Lord Ganesha. Out of these two doors one door is still unbroken while second one is completely dropped down. There are some Persian inscriptions on the arches of the door. Also there some writings can be seen on the arch of the door which is in the Arabian or Persian language.

    How to go there:

    As these two forts are located near to each other so the route for these two forts is same. The village lies in the base of the fort is Belmachi village. Also there is another way to reach fort is via Lagadewadi village. From the Chadan Fort you have required just 10 minutes to reach on the entrance door of the Vadan Fort.
