Bankot Fort
This fort is in the Ratnagiri District. The height of this fort is slightly above sea level. There is no difficulty to see this fort due to it simplicity. If you want to visit this fort then you have to require at least two and half hours to see fort. The history about this fort is that the firstly this fort was controlled by Adilshahi.
After that that is in 1548, the Portuguese captured this fort. In the period of Marathas, Kanhoji Angre took control over Bankot fort. They rechristened the fort as Himmatgad.
Points of Attraction:
The Bankot fort is square shaped fort. The entrance of this fort is from north and this door is known with Mahadarawaja. The shape of this Mahadarawaja is like a sculpted arch and carvings. On the left side of fort there are some steps which go towards Nagarkhana. On west side of the fort there is one small door or you can call it as entrance which goes towards Bastion on the exterior of the fortifications. Bankot fort has connection with Sir Arthur Mallet of the Arthur seat point fame at Mahabaleshwar.

Actually the route for this fort takes more time. If you want to visit this fort then follow the following route:
First go to Mumbai. There is no problem to reach at Mumbai. From Mumbai go to Panvel, then from Panvel go to Pen. From Pen go to Lonera via Wadkhal-Nagothane-Kolad route. Then go to Mandangad and from the Mandangad the Bankot is at 30 km away.
