Arnala Fort
Arnala is one of the best forts form coastal forts. It is located in Arnala village. This fort is about 10 km from Virar which is in Thane District. You have to required minimum 15 mins from Arnala village to reach on the top of fort. There is no source of food but water is available in the well on the fort. Arnala Fort is also known as 'Jaldurg' or 'Janjire Arnala'. The Arnala was captured by many empires such as Mughals, Marathas, Portuguese, and lastly Peshwas. The Sultan Mahmud Begda originally constructed the fort in 1516.
Points of Attraction:
This fort is rectangular in shape and almost surrounded by water hence this fort also known with 'Jaldurga' name. There are many temples such as Tryambakeshwar, Bhavani Mata, Kalika Mata, and also of Mahadev. There are three entrances out of which one entrance has two big bastions
on both side which is at north side of fort.
How to go there:
Arnala is about 10 km from Virar station on western railway route. S.T. buses and also auto-rickshaws are available to reach there. After reaching the beach from Arnala village you can reach fort by commuter boat only. The timing of boats are from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. And the time required to reach on the fort is about 5 to 10 mins only.
