Sravanabelagola is one of the best picturesque places in the Karnataka state and it is located in-between two hills Chandragiri and Indragiri, at a distance of 51 kilometers on the south-east of Hassan. Shravana means the Jain Tirthankar.
The name Sravanabelagola stands for Monk of the White Pond. It is one of the important Jain pilgrim centre in this state.
It houses monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali, which is about atop 700 granite steps and is the world's tallest statue of Bahubali.
Once in every 12 years the 'Mahamastakabhisheka' from the height of 17 meter is done and to meet this holy event thousands of devotees come and worship the 1000 year old statue.
The Mahamastakabhisheka is done with milk, curds, saffron, ghee and some devotees also offer gold coins.
