Nagarhole National Park is also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park. It is separated pocket of the Coorg region and 93 kilometers on the south-west side of Mysore city. It is pread over 643 square kilometers of forest and home to elephants, panthers, tigers, gaurs, barking deers and bears.
In a bad fire incident occurred in the year 1992, all forest was burnt, but now it is totally renewed and on the way to recovery. One can stay at Forest Department guest house by making reservation. As it is with minimal facilities and lush forest is much more attractive than the Bandipur vegetation.
Buses from Mysore are available to reach Nagarhole two times a day. Here is the old Nayaka mud fort, which was Tipu's palace with a mosque, oil pits, secret hideaways, 14 temples, caves are nice to see.
