Melkote is just 50 kilometers away from Mysore city and it is well known for Cheluvarayaswami temple. This temple was built in 12th century. On the north of Melkote, there is Nagamangala and here you can see one more temple from 12th century of Saumyakeshava.
At a distance of 20 kilometers from Melkote, a village of Hosaholalu is located and here is the famous Laxminarayana temple, which is from 13th century. At Basaralu the Mallikarjuna temple houses famous idol of Shiva with 16 arms and dancing on Andhakasur's head and other idol of Ravana while lifting Kailasa.
All these places are easy to visit from Mysore or Mandya. Himvad Gopaiaswamy Hills here on the verdant western ghats of the Mysore district are having popular hill resort and a good place for trekkers to delight.
