Old Bombay state was divided into two branches and the city was dividing in two states Maharashtra and Gujarat, at that time Mumbai city fell in the part of the Maharashtra state in the year 1960. Then a need for totally new capital building for the Gujarat state arises and the Gandhinagar was then established as a totally new city.

Gujarat's new capital city Gandhinagar located on the west bank of Sabarmati River and it is at a distance of 32 kilometers from the north east side of the Ahmedabad city. It is the main commercial as well as the well known cultural heart of the Gujarat state.

Gandhinagar city is with very spacious and with a well-organized architectural look and then that city was dividing into the sectors as per the Central Government complex. It was named as Gandhinagar after the great historical leader of India Mahatma Gandhi, who was born in Gujarat state. It was the second planned city in India.

Akshardham

Akshardham is the very well known temple of 'Swaminarayan Sect' in this area; it is one of the richest sects in the whole world. This beautiful temple was made up of pink sand stones of six thousand tones and it has very beautiful carvings on these stones.

This temple is surrounded by the garden's greenery and with the fountains all around it. Akshardham temple is one of the miracles designed after the many volunteers of Shri Akshar Purushottam Sanstha invested their time with the talent for many days. This place is the grand dedication to Lord Swaminarayan and here the birth bicentenary of Lord Swaminarayan is also celebrated every year.

This is the complex of area of 23 acres totally and it was opened at first time on the 2nd November in the year 1992. It is now considered as marvels of the 20th century and one of the best eternal monuments in India. There is a Hindu temple in the Akshardham, in the sector 20 and it is a nice cultural complex with the entertainment park around it.

It is a rare example of art, creativity and education all together and there is also a stone monument of pink sandstones. A single visit to this place is like a visiting the Interactive exhibitions on Indian Culture and Contemplative Gardens. It is also blessed with the place where one can meditate and get relaxed and that is none other than the garden for meditation just outside this temple. This place where one can relax and meditate is known as the Shahajanabad Van.
