Margao
Margao is pronounced as Madgaon in Goa. This is the suitable place for people staying at Colva and Benaulim beaches. It is also the main population centre in the Southern side of Goa. It is very attractive as well as the regional town and still one can see the Portuguese past in this town.
Actually there is nothing so much of interesting to see in Margao except the most impressive Church of Holy Spirit in Goa. This church was initially built in the year 1564 and it was rebuilt in the year 1675.It has platform in the north wall which is having carvings of the Apostles on it. The enclosed market in this town is the best of its type in Goa.
After the Capital city, Margao is also the important place as it is the hub of commercial activity in Salcete and practically of all Southern Goa. It is having good connectivity by road as well as rail with the Belgaum, Poona and Bangalore.
Margaon city is made up of Latin Colonial and Spanish-Mexican architecture, which combining make sit very beautiful by the wealth. It has splendid houses lined with patios, balconies, porches and red-tiled slopping roofs. The two big markets are the places for fairs or zatras and this is the reason why theses places are so beloved to the Goan spirit. Again the well-laid gardens with the children parks add more spice to the place.
This is a single rail way in Goa passes throughout Margao and into the mountainous forested countryside of Sanguem taluka, and it went before the Dudhsagar waterfalls, which are observable from the train. For those who enjoy in tramping throughout forests, this is the best sight with positive appeal to break journey at the small railway station.
This is the biggest commercial centre after Panaji in Goa and the capital of the richest and most lush taluka, Salcete in Goa. As it is a lovely regional town, it was given the status of a vila (town) by Royal decree in the year 1778.
There is a temple of Chandreshwar Bhutnath at a distance of 16 kilometer from Margao and it was from the Mauryas empire. It is at a height of 1,170 feet. It is the nice place to trip by both the religious and the concerned devotees, as outlook and visit is worth, but it is difficult to climb 500-feet.

There is a local festival in Margao around on the day 8 December, when all Margao celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception with a huge crowd.
