Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, Madhya Pradesh


Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1974 Under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and Biogeographical province 4.8.4 (Indus-Ganges Monsoon Forest). The Sanctuary is spread in area about 553 sq km. mainly undulating and hilly terrain. Altitude ranges from 327-736m.. Moist peninsular sal forest. The dominant species is sal Shorea robusta mixed with Terminalia, Anogeossis, Pterocarpus, bamboo and others are the main vegetation.

Fauna :
Tiger Panthera tigris, leopard. pardus, Jackal Canis aureus, sloth bear Melursus ursinus, Indian wild dog Cuon alpinus, chital Axis, sambar Cervus unicolor, nilgai Boselaphus tragocamelus, gaur Bos gaurus, muntjac Muntiacus muntjak, wild boar Sus scrofa and others. The main considerable interruption is Grazing of cattle and collection of minor forest produce by the villagers.
