Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, located in the southern Indian state of Karnataka 20 kms away from Mysore is an important tourist destination. The bird sanctuary that is situated on the banks of the Kaveri River consists of a group of six islets. Ranganathittu is a favorite abode for birds. In 1940 Ranganathittu attained the status of a bird sanctuary.
