Whole of India goes for 'dal' which is a dish of stewed pulses and spices. But the basic living is with the 'bread and butter' and dal roti needed to survive. A variety of dals are available in India and it includes the thin sambars of the southern part, the thick moong dals of the northern India.
There are sixty different pulses which contain dried beans, lentils and peas, which are eaten with meals. In south the basis is a rice and wheat as bread in the northern part. These are generally eaten with dals, vegetables and variety of chutneys.
