This beach is named after the daughter of the viceroy of India, Dona Paula de Mendez, who jumped from the cliff and committed suicide, for not getting permission to marry a local fisherman, Gaspar Dias. Due to this reason many lovers visit this place without fail. The haunting and romantic story of this place is popular with the younger generation. This place is also well-known as 'the Lovers paradise'.

Two main rivers of Goa flow into the Arabian Sea at the bay of Dona Paula. Dona Paula offers a fine vista of the margagao harbor. Many water-sports activities like water-scooter rides, windsurfing, water-skiing, Para sailing, toboggan ski-biscuit, snorkeling and motor-boat rides etc are carried out here. This place is perfect for relaxing and for having sun-bathe.

There are many local vendors on the beach having wide ringed of items such as garments, sea-side goods, handicraft and Fein- local liquor. These items are very cheap.

The breathtaking view of the sunset and the sunrise is amazing from the Doan Paula beach. There are ferry rides to Dona Paula beach which are unique. If you are interested in enjoying the natural beauty of the beach then there are cruises which will give you an over view of the beach.

The delightful beach of Dona Paula is surrounded by huge palm tress and the casuarinas. Another famous place close by is the Salim Ali bird sanctuary; this is a place where you can find both migratory as well as local birds. The national oceanography institute here has different aircrafts which deals with marine biology and oceanography.

Raj bhavan is the main attraction place as it is the official residence of the governor of Goa. You get a wonderful view of the Aguada fort and the coastline.

Reis Magos church is major attraction spot near the Dona Paul beach just 6 miles away. It is one of the oldest churches in Goa.

  • Airways: Nearest airport is the Dabolim airport which is just 29 kilometers away from Panjim and 36 kilometers from Anjuna beach. From there hire taxi and private buses for Dona Paula beach.
  • Rail ways: Nearest railway station is the Karmali station; this is just 15 kilometers away. Goa is connected with all the major cities by train.
  • Road ways: There are many state transport buses and private luxury buses from Panjim to all the major cites of India.

Best time to visit Dona Paula beach is from November to January as during this period there are festivals going on and you can have great fun with your loved ones.
