Benaulim Beach

Benaulim beach is the most popular beaches of South Goa. It is said that lord Parasurama, sixth incarnation of load Vishnu threw an arrow into the sea from Sahyadri which landed in Benaulim and named Banahalli. Later the Portuguese changed it to Benaulim town. This beach is more beautiful and peaceful than the Colva beach. There are thousands of tourists visiting this place every year.

There are huge palm trees lined on one side and to the other side is the golden sand touching the deep blue sea. People come to enjoy the peaceful and cool environment of the Benaulim beach Benaulim beach is one of the fishing beaches of south goa and is not spoilt much by the local people. There are locals as well as international tourists visitors in a huge number on week-ends.

There is an amazing view of the sunset and sunrise, to have a glance at it people wait for the whole day. This changes the color of the sky and the sea into golden. This small town is the fishing center of south Goa. Benaulim beach is also famous for rosewood furniture and for the carving of the furniture.

There is a very famous church of St. John Baptist on the hill next to the beach, which is a good example of the typical Goan architecture.

As the sea water is calm and gentle people can swim here without any dangerous. There are many water-sport activities such as Para sailing, wind surfing and jet skiing. People lie down on the beach warming their body with the warm sun rays and watch the waves playing with the sea-shore. Some also enjoy sun bathe at Benaulim beach.

Visitors even have a leisure walk on the beach during the evening time watching sunset and wondering the colorful sky and sea.

  • Railways: Nearest railway station is the Margao which is just 8 kilometers away from the Benaulim beach. There are pre-paid taxis and auto-rickshaws from the station to the beach.
  • Road ways: There are state transport buses and luxury buses from Panaji to all major cities of India. There are pre-paid taxis and auto-rickshaws from Panaji to the Benaulim beach.
