New Delhi is the capital of the India and it was confirmed on 12th December 1911, after L Emperor George V announcement for shifting capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi at Delhi Durbar in 1911. In order to design great capital city named 'New Delhi', Edwin Lutyens, who is the British architect, wanted to change dusty landscape into the green capitals like others in the world.
Delhi is widely spread city on the west bank of the Jamuna River since more than 2000 years and commanded the strategically vital route from the North West frontier to the agriculturally well developed Ganga plains. In the triumphant late colonial architecture of the British made New Delhi city, India's capital buildings testify to the
city's renewed strategic importance. This new city was inaugurated on the day 9th February in the year 1931.
