Old Fort
Old fort is said to be built on site of Indraprasta (stated in Mahabharata). The fort has been a seat for admin for several emperors. Now it is in ruins, this fort had a credit of being a seat of famous ruler, Prithviraj Chauhan.
It was built by Sher Shah Suri after he destroyed Dinpanah - Humayun's city. On the western wall, there are some bastions on its angles. It has two kilometers long ramparts of the Purana Quila brag of 3- double-storied major gates carrying "chhatris" on top.
Main Attractions :
- Humayun's Library - It is built by Sher Shah. It is in an octagonal shape named Sher Mandal.
- Talaqi Darwaza – Also known as Forbidden gates.
- Qila-i-Kuhna Masjid – A graet construction built from white colored marble and red sandstones.
How to Reach there :
- The Fort is placed to south-east direction of the India gate and to north direction of Humayun's mausoleum in the New Delhi.
- You can hire boats for a nominal price/hour.
