Pan Chakki is the 17th century watermill located in Aurangabad and it takes name from the mill which used to grind grain for the pilgrims. It was the oldest water distribution system and started in 1695 and it was the first step towards engineering concepts by Malik Ambar, who was the well known architect of Aurangabad city.
The watermill is taking water as input from the large rectangular reservoir. This has an artificial cascade on one side which supplies water to the north and the west corner of the mill. Ceramic pipes are used for conducting water to the lower chamber of this mill, rotations of iron fan results in the movement of the grind stone in the upper chamber.
Sufi saint, who was a spiritual guide of Aurangzeb, was buried here in 1624 and so one notice many gardens and fish tanks serve as his memorial.
